Modified Pilates

We’re excited to announce we are now offering three new modified Pilates classes:

  • Beginners & Intermediate Modified Pilates Class
  • Mums and Bubs Modified Pilates Class
  • Pregnancy Pilates Modified Pilates Class

What is modified Pilates?

Modified Pilates differs from traditional Pilates in that each session is conducted by a professionally trained Chartered Physiotherapist, who will appraise your specific movement issues and clinically apply modifying exercises to target problem areas.

This is also why our classes are only designed for 8-10 participants, so everyone gets the attention they need from our qualified physiotherapist. Many non-clinical Pilates classes have to secure at least 20-25 people for every session – fortunately this will not be the case for our classes – so we recommend early booking to avoid disappointment.

The first block of Beginners Pilates has started, but the next set are due to start in December.

Beginners & Intermediate Modified Pilates Class

 

Beginners & Intermediate Pilates Class

  • 8 week course
  • Class size: Max 8-10
  • 8 x 45 – 60 min mat classes which will cover exercises to improve flexibility, control and strength in areas that may be contributing to your ongoing issue – such as re-occurring low back pain, neck and shoulder pain and headaches.
  • We will use equipment to assist and challenge your movement – including fit balls, magic circles and foam rollers.
  • Weekly videos will be sent out with some exercises to practice at home.
  • Use of mats, foam rollers, magic circles (resistance circle) and light weights if available.

Week 1 – Introduction to Pilates Principals

Including breathing, centering, controlling rib and sternal flare, scapulae setting and control of movement throughout range.

 


Mums and Bubs Modified Pilates Class

 

Mums and Bubs Pilates Class

  • Class size: Max 6
  • These classes will assist you to restore your pre-pregnancy shape and adapt to the physical demands of motherhood, with an emphasis on postural awareness and abdominal muscle control.
  • You are welcome to bring your new baby along to the classes, until the point when they start crawling.
  • This is a social class and a lovely way to grade back into exercise.
  • Use of mats, foam rollers and magic circles.

Prior to attending the class, you will need to have a session with the physiotherapist. You will also need to have a clearance to exercise form filled in by your midwife or obstetrician.

 


Pregnancy Modified Pilates Classes

 

Pregnancy Pilates Classes

  • Class size: Max 8
  • This class will cover pilates-based exercises to assist postural awareness, strength and flexibility during your pregnancy.
  • The exercises will be safe for pregnancy and you will be guided through the exercises by a physiotherapist with extensive experience with working with pregnant women.
  • You will have the opportunity to discuss any questions or concerns with the physiotherapist.
  • The style and sequence of the exercises will assist you with relaxation and body awareness.
  • This is a lovely supportive class with other pregnant women.

Prior to attending the class, you will need to have a session with the physiotherapist. You will also need to have a clearance to exercise form filled in by your midwife or obstetrician.
